Homeschooling in Massachusetts
Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 76 Section 1, as interpreted by Care and Protection of Charles (1987), requires advance approval of a home education plan by your local superintendent or school committee before you begin. The plan addresses subjects, materials, instructor qualifications, hours, and an assessment method. Districts cannot require home visits, teaching credentials, or approval of specific materials. Compulsory age 6 through 16.
